How I Started with Trading and Investing – Don’t Make the Same Mistakes as I Did!
Read my personal story about trading and investing, which began almost 20 years ago. Was trading as easy for me at the beginning as it is often talked about and written? What experiences did I go through and what have I learned over the years? I caution you. By reading this text, you may reconsider your path to wealth.
First Trade
My first trading speculation took place nearly 20 years ago. At the beginning of the new millennium, the exchange rate of the US dollar was around forty Czech crowns, and with its rapid decline to thirty, I saw this as an opportunity.
I gathered my saved money and had it exchanged for dollars. I don’t remember the exact exchange rate at the time, but my broker was my parents, and the exchange was done at a currency exchange office on the corner of a trading house in Zlín.
This trade did not go as planned. The dollar continued to weaken, and the crown strengthened. The exchange rate reached twenty-seven crowns to the dollar, and I decided to close the trade, realizing a loss. Not a complete loss, though, because my broker (parents) compensated me for this loss.
My trading spirit quieted down for a long time. Back then, I didn’t search for anything related to trading on the Internet, but in printed newspapers, I followed various numbers in the economic section. The names and even the values of the indices probably meant nothing to me. The stock exchange itself didn’t interest me much, but money did. Until one day, the stock exchange became my daily companion.
Everyday with the Stock Exchange – First Experiences
That day was in January 2012, the day I returned from the mountains with my brother and his friends. In the evenings, with a bottle of good wine, my brother and his friends talked about some trading. I had no idea what it was. They spoke about buying gold, oil, currencies, and selling it all in a matter of seconds. It sounded tempting. So simple. With my introverted nature, I only listened to their conversation from my sleeping bag in the corner of the room. I didn’t join the discussion. I listened to them planning a bright future, how they would easily earn money for expensive cars, houses, and become rich.
From that evening, I thought about trading every moment. I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget. I remember asking my brother on the way back from the mountains how to spell the word „trading.“ It was the key word that stuck in my head. When I got home, I sat at the computer and entered it into the Google search.
The first links led me to Czech websites like Finančník.cz. Gradually, I started finding brokerage companies, including XTB, which I later chose as my first real broker.
Since then, I educated myself every day. I studied various videos on the Internet, read articles, and even read a book. One book!
After about a month, I thought I was sufficiently equipped to start live trading…
